PURCELLVILLE, Va. June 9, 2023 – The Purcellville Arts Council (PAC) is pleased to announce the most recent art display in Town Hall featuring artists from the Loudoun Sketch Club. Nearly 40 artists have their work on display through July 30, 2023. The PAC is hosting a meet-the-artist reception on June 22 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. when the public may view the art, hear from the artists, enjoy refreshments, and have a chance to vote for their favorite piece of art. In addition to the reception, all are welcome to view the artwork Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except holidays.
This display at Purcellville Town Hall is the 79th Annual Show and Sale of the Loudoun Sketch Club, Loudoun County’s oldest arts organization. Called “Small Treasures,” this show is a display of local plein-air and studio works that are in oil, pastel, watercolor, and mixed-media. Founded in 1946, the Loudoun Sketch Club is a group of 160 working artists who regularly gather to develop and promote their art through workshops, plein-air outings, art shows, and sales. The club welcomes artists working in all media and at all skill levels with an interest in advancing their art in the company of other artists. Those interested in joining or learning more about the club can go to https://www.loudounsketchclub.com for further information.
The first-floor corridors of Town Hall have a gallery-caliber hanging system which creates an opportunity for local artists to exhibit their work. Art exhibitions in Town Hall help ensure that all members of the public have access to art.
The Town of Purcellville, Virginia
“Purcellville-your small Town, where history and progress intersect and people prosper,” is an award-winning town of approximately 10,000 residents located in Loudoun County, approximately 50 miles west of Washington, DC. Having received the 2021 Virginia Municipal League Innovation Award for Environmental Sustainability and in years past, the prestigious Siemens Sustainability Award for Small Communities, Purcellville continues to be honored for innovation and green initiatives. The Town most recently received the Tree City USA Award for the 14th consecutive year. The Town was reaffirmed as a AAA rated community by S&P Global Ratings, the highest credit rating possible, and was ranked “Safest City” in Virginia in 2020. Once a stop along the W&OD rail line, which has been converted to a multi-use trail from Alexandria, VA to Purcellville, the Town has maintained its historic old-town feel through the restoration and maintenance of its many downtown structures, reflecting the Victorian architecture popular during the early 1900s. Today, Purcellville is the economic hub of western Loudoun County and a popular weekend destination for antiquing, equestrian activities, farmer’s markets, wineries, breweries, distilleries and restaurants.
