[ARCHIVED] News Release - Town of Purcellville Memorial Day Ceremony

PURCELLVILLE, Va. May 23, 2022 — The Town of Purcellville encourages all citizens to come out to honor our Fallen Veterans on Memorial Day, Monday May 30, 2022. The ceremony will begin at 11:45 a.m. at Purcellville Town Hall, 221 South Nursery Ave. Details about the ceremony are below. 

Purcellville Town Hall

  • Welcome by the Mayor
  • Invocation by Chaplain Larry Brooks, Purcellville Police Department
  • Remarks by guest speaker, Sergeant Eric M. Wilson, U.S. Army Retired

 

Procession to the Tear Drop 

 

Tear Drop

  • American Legion presents military wreaths
  • Families of the Fallen present local hero wreaths
  • "Taps" played by Rick Reaves
  • American Legion gives a 21-gun salute
  • American Legion raises the American flag
  • Moment of silence
  • Purcellville Mayor Fraser reads a proclamation
  • Benediction by Chaplain Larry Brooks, Purcellville Police Department
  • Closing remarks by Mayor Fraser

 

Please note: Traffic will be diverted in the area of the teardrop intersection from approximately 11:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to honor our Fallen.  This will impact traffic on Main Street from Hatcher Avenue to 21st Street and from Nursery Avenue and 20th Street onto Main Street.
