[ARCHIVED] News Release - Discover Natures Secrets in Night Sky at Franklin Park February 27th

PURCELLVILLE, Va. February 15, 2022 — Join the Purcellville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club (NOVAC) to view objects in the night sky on Sunday, February 27! This special nature “walk” will be held at a different location and time – Franklin Park at 6:30 p.m. NOVAC members will point out bright stars, Uranus, the Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, and other deep sky objects. They will have their personal telescopes there for optimum viewing. We will view the night sky from the soccer and football fields at Franklin Park, located at 17501 Franklin Park Drive. Register online for this free event!

Participants are asked not to bring flashlights to the event to preserve night vision.  If illumination is necessary, NOVAC recommends red lights or flashlights covered with red cellophane. Lights on the fields will be turned off for better viewing.  Viewing the night sky is weather dependent and may be postponed if there is precipitation or if it is overcast.

The Discover Nature’s Secrets guided nature activities are held the last Sunday of each month and hosted by the Purcellville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Learn more and register online on the Monthly Nature Walks page in the Events and Activities section of the Town of Purcellville’s website at www.PurcellvilleVa.gov
