[ARCHIVED] News Release - Council members Rayner and Grewe Attend VML Legislative Day in Richmond

PURCELLVILLE, Va. February 7, 2022 — On February 3, Council members Erin Rayner and Joel Grewe participated in the annual Virginia Municipal League 2022 Legislative Day.

Councilmember Rayner said, “being part of the Annual Legislative Day is crucial to engage our representatives about bills that impact our town. We need to represent our town’s priorities in Richmond."

Councilmember Grewe concurred, “It is crucial that members of the Purcellville Town Council make the effort to engage in the state legislative process. Their decisions have massive implications for Purcellville.  We must ensure that our town interests are in the drafting process."

Councilmembers Grewe and Rayner spoke with Delegate LaRock and other members of the House of Delegates, and advocated for the restoration of robust state funding to our police departments. This is a reverse of prior actions which undermined local law enforcement funding.

Rayner and Grewe also spoke with Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security, Bob Mosier and Colonel Gary Settle, Superintendent of the Virginia State Police who were asked to support state funding for local police departments.

Council member Grewe serves on the VML Transportation Advisory Committee where he advocates for a more responsive approach from VDOT to local traffic needs.
