PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY- OCTOBER 23RD

PURCELLVILLE, Va., October 13, 2021 — In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the Purcellville Police Department will host its bi-annual Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  This “Take Back” initiative seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft by providing a safe, convenient and responsible means for disposing of prescription drugs.   The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Individuals may turn in their unused or expired prescription medication for safe disposal at the Purcellville Police Station located at 125 Hirst Road, Suite 7A, Purcellville, Virginia.

Once again, the Purcellville Police Department is pleased to partner with the Prevention Alliance of Loudoun (PAL) to help provide free, additional safety items to help prevent drug abuse. “We are pleased that the Prevention Alliance of Loudoun (PAL) is collaborating with the Purcellville Police Department to provide free medication lock boxes and drug deactivation bags to the community,” said Margaret Graham, executive director of the Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services. PAL is a coalition comprised of diverse community stakeholders dedicated to mental health awareness and substance misuse prevention efforts in Loudoun County.

In addition, our fellow local law enforcement agencies including the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Leesburg Police Department, and Middleburg Police Department will also be collecting unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction at their own designated locations throughout Loudoun County on October 23rd.

Acceptable items include: prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, medical samples, pet medications, and vape pens/e-cigarettes (battery must be removed). Items NOT accepted include: needles, epi pens, thermometers, batteries, IV bags, blood or infectious waste, liquids, gels or sprays.

The Town of Purcellville, Virginia

“Purcellville-your small Town, where history and progress intersect and people prosper,” is an award-winning town of over 10,000 residents located in Loudoun County, approximately 50 miles west of Washington, DC. Having received the prestigious Siemens Sustainability Award for Small Communities, Purcellville continues to be honored for its green initiatives with most recently being the Tree City USA recipient for the 12th year.
