PURCELLVILLE, Va. August 30, 2021 — Residents and business owners are encouraged to help build community resilience to disasters by participating in the Northern Virginia Hazard Mitigation Survey.
Loudoun County and the incorporated towns of Hamilton, Hillsboro, Leesburg, Lovettsville, Middleburg, Round Hill , along with the Town of Purcellville, are taking part in a region wide effort to update the Northern Virginia Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan identifies strategies for reducing or eliminating loss of life, injury, and property damage caused by disasters as well as the long-term risks that result from hazards such as floods, severe storms, tornadoes, wildfires and winter weather.
In addition to preventing loss of life, injuries and damage to buildings and infrastructure, hazard mitigation can prevent damage to a community’s economic, social and environmental well-being.
Members of the Purcellville community may take part in the mitigation planning process by completing the on-line Northern Virginia Hazard Mitigation Survey. The survey allows responses to questions about natural hazards you may be concerned about or have directly experienced in the past five years. The survey also asks for opinions on proposed mitigation strategies. Participation in the on-line survey is voluntary.
The brief survey is available online https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NorthernVirginiaHazardMitigationSurvey and is open through September 15, 2021.
