[ARCHIVED] News Release - Town of Purcellville Memorial Day Ceremony

PURCELLVILLE, Va. May 19, 2021— The Town of Purcellville encourages all citizens to come out to honor our Fallen Veterans on Memorial Day, Monday May 31, 2021. The ceremony will begin at 11:45 a.m. at Purcellville Town Hall, 221 South Nursery Ave.  The ceremony may also be viewed on the Town’s Facebook page through a Facebook Live event. Details about the ceremony are below. In accordance with CDC’s guidance regarding COVID, the Town strongly encourages those in attendance who are unvaccinated or not fully-vaccinated to wear masks.

  • Remarks by guest speaker, Chief Petty Officer Stan Milan, United States Navy (retired)

  • Families of the Fallen present local hero wreaths
  • "Taps" played by Rick Reaves
  • American Legion gives a 21-gun salute
  • American Legion raises the American flag
  • Moment of silence
  • Purcellville Mayor Fraser reads a proclamation
  • Benediction by Chaplain Larry Brooks, Purcellville Police Department
  • Closing remarks by Mayor Fraser


Please note: Traffic will be diverted in the area of the teardrop intersection from approximately 11:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to honor our Fallen.  This will impact traffic on Main Street from Hatcher Avenue to 21st Street and from Nursery Avenue and 20th Street onto Main Street.
