PURCELLVILLE, Va. May 10, 2021 — Join the virtual fun! During the week of May 12, 2021 through May 19, 2021, the Purcellville Police Department will be collaborating with Virginia State Police, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Loudoun County Animal Services, Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter, Loudoun Domestic Abuse Response Team, Loudoun County Fire & Rescue, Leesburg Police Department, Purcellville Volunteer Fire Department, and Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad to bring our citizens a Virtual Public Safety Week.  Public Safety Week combines celebrating National Police Week and EMS Week to highlight the important work of our local first responders. Each day during the week-long event, one or more agencies will post on social media a video, safety tip, and/or possible a craft for all our residents to enjoy. As we continue to adapt to current circumstances due to COVID, we hope this bit of engagement helps our citizens become informed of the resources available to them.  Please visit the Town of Purcellville website ( for a list of agencies for each corresponding day, and remember to check the Purcellville Police Department’s Facebook page for the daily posts (

National Police Week is recognized during the week of May 15. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation naming May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day. The Purcellville Police Department has proudly served the residents of Purcellville since 1908; growing into the State Accredited Agency it is today. Purcellville PD strives to provide law enforcement services in partnership with the community that provide a safe environment with the highest quality of life for all residents, business owners and visitors to enjoy.

In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate Emergency Medical practitioners and the important work they do in our nation's communities. EMS Week allows communities to recognize that emergency medical services are an essential public function and a vital component in the medical care continuum. The Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad (PVRS) provides emergency medical and rescue services for our community, staffed completely by volunteers. PVRS counts on community support for its operations.

The Town of Purcellville, Virginia

“Purcellville-your small Town, where history and progress intersect and people prosper,” is an award-winning town of over 10,000 residents located in Loudoun County, approximately 50 miles west of Washington, DC. Having received the prestigious Siemens Sustainability Award for Small Communities, Purcellville continues to be honored for its green initiatives with most recently being the Tree City USA recipient for the 13th year. The Town was reaffirmed as a AAA rated community by S&P Global Ratings, the highest credit rating possible, and is ranked “Safest City” in Virginia in 2020. Once a stop along the W&OD rail line, which has been converted to a multi-use trail from Alexandria, VA to Purcellville, the Town has maintained its historic old-town feel through the restoration and maintenance of its many downtown structures, reflecting the Victorian architecture popular during the early 1900s. Today, Purcellville is the economic hub of western Loudoun County and a popular weekend destination for antiquing, equestrian activities, farmer’s markets, wineries, breweries, distilleries and restaurants.
