PURCELLVILLE, Va., April 1, 2021 — Purcellville’s Mayor Kwasi Fraser has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2021 EENR Federal Advocacy Committee. Mayor Fraser was elected to a one-year term, and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities. The appointment was announced by NLC President Kathy Maness, Council member, Lexington, SC.
“This appointment comes at an important time as the town looks forward to investing in aging water infrastructure. In addition, we are initiating the first nutrient program ever in the history of the town; a project that will give our citizens an environmental legacy project on the value to mitigate the impacts of climate change and global warming,” said Town Manager David Mekarski.
As a committee member, Mayor Fraser will play a key role among a diverse group of local leaders in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocating on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the administration and at home.
“Our federal advocacy committees are the voices of what’s happening on the ground in our communities,” said Kathy Maness, Council member of Lexington, SC, and President of the National League of Cities (NLC). “I am proud to have Mayor Fraser join NLC's EENR committee on behalf of Purcellville residents. Together with a team of local leaders from around the country, we will work to solve the most pressing challenges facing our communities.”
The leadership of this year’s committee will consist of Chair Ellen Smith, Council member, City of Oak Ridge, TN, Vice Chair Cindy Dyballa, Council member, City of Tacoma Park, MD, and Vice Chair Adrian Hernandez, Council member, City of Pearland, TX.
