[ARCHIVED] News Release - Public Statement from the Purcellville Town Council

PURCELLVILLE, Va., March 29, 2021 — We would like to publicly recognize the varied and many contributions our Town Staff has made over the course of the pandemic. From continuing essential services such as water delivery and treatment, to responding to public safety needs, to administrating COVID-19 relief act grants to our local businesses and non-profits, the Staff has been at the forefront of guiding and setting the conditions for our community to quickly and resiliently emerge from the pandemic in a strong position.

Recent media reports have attempted to chronicle Staff efforts to support the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan as well as respond to myriad other ongoing initiatives ranging from creating new revenue streams to formulating a new budget. Some reporting has suggested the Staff has been less than responsive to Council requests for information related to new and pending legislation out of Richmond that could have a local impact. We believe it is important to clarify Staff has been fully responsive to each and every request coming from Council. Staff has done a laudable job of trying to stay out in front of the issues without Council prompting and when specifically asked by Council they have leaned into each and every request without exception. To suggest otherwise is just incorrect.

We not only celebrate but also count on the selfless commitment of our Town Staff. The next time you see a Staff member we recommend you thank them for their service to our Town.
