PURCELLVILLE POLICE LIEUTENANT DUFEK RECEIVES VFW AWARD

PURCELLVILLE, Va., March 24, 2021 — The Purcellville Police Department is pleased to announce that Lieutenant Barry Dufek was awarded the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Law Enforcement Public Servant Citation at last night’s Town Council meeting.  Lieutenant Dufek was presented the award by Mr. Stephen Hood and Commander Ray Delpesche of the Loudoun County Post 1177 of Veterans of Foreign Wars.  The citation is given to a law enforcement individual who shows consistent excellence in the performance of their duties, as well as continuous dedication and growth in their official responsibilities and skills within their profession.

Lieutenant Dufek was chosen for being the epitome of a community engaged public servant, team player, and consummate leader.  He has been with the Purcellville Police Department since 2016, but his career in law enforcement spans more than twenty years. He is the current Operations Commander, overseeing the patrol function of the Department, and serves as a strong role model to his officers.  Lieutenant Dufek has excelled in many areas during his time at Purcellville, however most recently, he has successfully taken on the role of project manager for the implementation of the electronic citation (E-citation) program. The E-citation program incorporates technology which provides safety and efficiency for both the violator and officer by decreasing time on a traffic stop.  He is also a valued instructor at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, serving as a highly respected driver training instructor.  His known patience with struggling students is also evident in to his ability to mentor his less experienced officers at the Purcellville Police Department.

Lieutenant Dufek is committed to not only the Purcellville community and police department, but his dedication extends to his fellow public safety partners, to include areas surrounding Loudoun County. Lieutenant Dufek is well known and well respected among all who know him in public safety and the community. He continually goes out of his way to serve in any way possible.  We are honored to have Lieutenant Dufek as part of our team, and be recognized for his professionalism, service, and integrity as a recipient of the VFW Law Enforcement Public Servant Citation.
