POLICE DEPARTMENT HIRES FIRST ADMINISTRATIVE LIEUTENANT

 

PURCELLVILLE, Va. June 24, 2020 —The Purcellville Police Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Scott Moskowitz as the first Administrative Lieutenant for the Department.  Lieutenant Moskowitz will start on Monday, June 29, 2020. Moskowitz joins Purcellville with over 27 years of experience with the Fairfax County Police Department.  He most recently held the rank of Second Lieutenant and was the Supervisor of the Fairfax County Police Canine Section. In addition, he also served as a Patrol Squad Supervisor at the Mason District Station while also in the position of Second Lieutenant.  As a Sergeant, he was a detective in the Internal Affairs Bureau, and a Patrol Squad Supervisor at the Sully District Station.  As a police officer, police officer first class, and master police officer, Moskowitz served in the roles of Firearms Training Instructor for the Criminal Justice Academy, a Tactical Flight Officer Paramedic in the Helicopter Division, a Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) supplemental team member, a Street Crimes Unit detective, member of the Neighborhood Patrol Unit, and a patrol officer.


Moskowitz is a graduate of Kean University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration.  His extensive leadership training includes not only completing, but also  being an instructor for the International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organization, a flagship course based off of the United States Military Academy, West Point, leadership course designed for law enforcement in the theory of dispersed leadership.  His training also includes certification as a K9 handler, paramedic, Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, and Tactical Rifle Instructor. 


During his time with the Fairfax County Police Department, Moskowitz was the recipient of two Bronze Medals of Valor, a Certificate of Valor, a Meritorious Action Award, two Team Excellence Awards, and a Life Saving Award.   His extensive experience and knowledge of a variety of law enforcement specialties will make him a valuable member of the Purcellville Police Department. 


Mr. Moskowitz’s fulfillment of the Administrative Lieutenant position will allow for a more succinct division between the operations and administrative branches, and provides greater oversight to administrative duties and logistical operations of the Purcellville Police Department.
