(Water Flushing After Building Closures)
PURCELLVILLE, Va. (May 20, 2020) — The Town of Purcellville would like to remind customers that building closures due to COVID-19 can have a significant impact on water quality. Water stagnation can lead to the growth of some types of bacteria, some of which can be disease-causing, such as Legionella. Ideally, weekly water flushing should be performed while the building is unoccupied. If that is not possible, the water lines must be flushed prior to occupants returning to the building. Remember to flush the entire building, including all water-using appliances such as dishwashers and ice machines. Flushing will replace the stagnant water with fresh water from the Town’s distribution system. For more detailed guidance, please review the attached flyer and visit: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/building-water-system.html.
