[ARCHIVED] News Release - Town of Purcellville Weekly Coronavirus Update 05.07.2020

PURCELLVILLE, Va., May 7, 2020 — Attached is the Weekly Coronavirus Update for the Town of Purcellville.  This week’s summary of COVID-19-related changes within Purcellville include an important update regarding the extension of key provisions of Governor Northam’s Executive Order 53.  The closure of non-essential businesses is now continued through May 14 at midnight.  Businesses such as barber shops, hair and nail salons, etc. need to wait at least one more week until allowed to reopen.

In addition, the Town elections have been rescheduled for June 4, 2020.  This will be a Thursday election day and will be held at the Bush Tabernacle located on 250 S. Nursery Avenue.  If you wish to apply for an absentee ballot, you may do so online through the Virginia Dept. of Elections no later than Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 5:00 PM. Voters who have already cast their absentee ballots do not need to reapply due to the election date change. Your ballots will be counted.  For more information please visit Loudoun.gov/vote.

Due to the extenuating circumstances and financial impact of the COVID-19 emergency, the Town of Purcellville has extended the real and personal property tax due date from June 5 to June 22, 2020.  If the establishment of a payment plan is needed, please contact the Finance Department before the June 22, 2020 due date at 540-338-7093 or at Finance@purcellvilleva.gov.

The Water Department would like to remind customers that building closures due to COVID-19 can have a significant impact on individual water quality. Water stagnation can lead to the growth of some types of harmful bacteria. Ideally, weekly water flushing should be performed while the building is unoccupied. If that is not possible, the water lines must be flushed prior to occupants returning to the building. As we look towards the possibility of reopening some businesses in the coming future, please remember to flush the entire building, including all water-using appliances such as dishwashers and ice machines. Flushing will replace the stagnant water with fresh water from the Town’s distribution system.
