[ARCHIVED] News Release - COVID-19 Related Changes to Town Meetings

PURCELLVILLE, Va. March 18, 2020 — On Monday, March 16, 2020, the Town Manager declared a local emergency, which requires the concurrence and ratification by the Mayor and the Town Council within 45 days. This discussion/action will be held during the Town Council Work Session scheduled on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 7:00 PM at Town Hall.


The Town of Purcellville is continuing to monitor the current health situation and the emerging information regarding COVID-19. Town Council will continue to conduct its regular meetings on schedule, but these meetings will be held electronically only.  Public participation will be by electronic means only. Instructions to the public on how to participate in public meetings will be provided prior to each meeting by subsequent News Releases, and will also be posted on the Town’s Facebook page and website.


Effectively immediately, regularly scheduled meetings of the following Town of Purcellville committees, commissions and boards have been suspended until further notice:


  • Economic Development Advisory Committee
  • Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
  • Purcellville Arts Council
  • Train Station Advisory Board
  • Tree and Environment Sustainability Committee


The following committees, commissions and boards will hold meetings on an as-needed basis:


  • Board of Architectural Review
  • Board of Zoning Appeals
  • Planning Commission


The Town will be setting up the Council Chambers to maximize social distance between both Council members and the personnel required to attend.  Citizens may not attend in-person, but may watch the live stream or video archive available on the Town’s website, and may send comments and questions by email to info@purcellvilleva.gov.  The administrative team will monitor the account and will publish responses on the Town’s website under the Government tab and Town Council Meetings Q’s and A’s.
