[ARCHIVED] News Release - Officer Tanner - MADD Award Recipient

PURCELLVILLE, Va. September 21, 2018 — Officer Joshua Tanner, along with other fellow Northern Virginia law enforcement officers, was honored on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Meadowlark Gardens in Vienna, Virginia. The MADD and Bull Run ASAP team hosted this event to honor these law enforcement professionals for their focus and dedication on arresting drunk and drugged drivers and getting them off our roadways.

It is a sad fact that we still have individuals who choose to get behind the wheel of a vehicle when they are impaired, and this creates a challenge for everyone. The hard work of our team which includes patrol officers/deputies, ASAP technicians, magistrates, judges, commonwealth attorneys, and educators is not in vain, as we have seen a continual downward trend of alcohol related crashes over the past five years with a 5.3% decrease in alcohol related deaths from 2016 to 2017.

Officer Tanner has a passion for identifying narcotics and alcohol violations and has built his knowledge base and fine-tuned his skills and abilities to detect drunk and drugged drivers that attempt to pass through our small town of 3.5 square miles. Officer Tanner is commended for maintaining his focus on keeping the streets of Purcellville safer by leading the Purcellville Police Department in the apprehension of impaired drivers!

Thank you Officer Tanner and all of our public safety personnel for putting their lives on the line every day to protect and serve!
