[ARCHIVED] News Release - Memorial Day Call for Names

PURCELLVILLE, Va. April 20, 2018— Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the military men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and for our freedom. For the past several years, the Town of Purcellville has honored the local fallen heroes from the Iraq and Afghanistan Conflicts by name, and pays respects to those who have fallen before them with a moment of silence. Going forward, the Town would like to honor the local fallen heroes of all wars and conflicts that the United States has fought by listing all of their names.

The Town of Purcellville extends a request to all local Gold Star Families to have their loved ones name, from any of America’s past conflicts, added to this year’s memorial program. When a family member has served in the military they are considered a blue star. When the Active Duty service member dies while serving our country, the blue star turns to gold and their families become Gold Stars. Please contact Sheryl Hood at or (540) 338-7440 ext. 221 to add your loved ones name to the program, or if you have any questions. The deadline to add your Purcellville heroes name to the program is Tuesday, May 1, 2018.
