[ARCHIVED] News Release - Purcellville Police Partners with MADD Collecting for GotSneakers Recycling Program

PURCELLVILLE, Va. March 2, 2018 — The Purcellville Police Department, in continuing efforts of community engagement, is pleased to announce its participation in the 2nd Annual GotSneakers Recycling Program sponsored by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Loudoun.

MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) Loudoun’s mission statement is to stop drunk driving and support the victims of this violent crime.

The Gotsneakers Recycling Program accepts all styles of footwear, including new, gently used, used, and unwearable shoes, sneakers, rubber soccer cleats, and rubber baseball cleats. Once collected, the sneakers are processed and distributed around the world specifically to impoverished nations through the GotSneakers program. Unwearable footwear is usually recycled into new products, such as tracks, playgrounds, and other athletic surfaces. Last year’s partnership collected over 2,000 pairs of sneakers. MADD Loudoun used those funds raised to finance their community programs.

The Purcellville Police Department will be accepting sneakers through the month of May. A collection box has been placed in the lobby of the Police Department which is located at 125 Hirst Rd, Suite 7A and is open Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
