PURCELLVILLE, Va. February 13, 2018 — Due to increasing levels of traffic created by the construction of Allder School Road and impending construction of a new commuter parking lot near Hirst Road, the Purcellville Town Council at their November, 2017 meeting approved development of a six month pilot program to address the increasing volume of traffic on N. 33rd Street, Country Club Drive, and Ashleigh Road. After consultation with a number of public service providers and public safety agencies and much discussion with Town Council and members of the community, the Town’s Public Works staff will install delineators at the east end of Glenmeade Circle near its intersection with Country Club Drive, and install new signage identifying the changed traffic patterns redirecting traffic from traveling eastbound on Country Club Drive as the first step in the pilot program. The delineators will restrict non-emergency related vehicular traffic turning onto Glenmeade Circle from Country Club Drive, but will allow emergency vehicle access, if needed. In anticipation of the redirected traffic, installation of traffic calming measures on Glenmeade Circle, speed bumps along Glenmeade Circle, the delineators and additional signage are scheduled to be installed on or before Friday, February 16, 2018 as the first step of the Town’s pilot program.
The initial phase of the pilot program will be in place for approximately 30 days and may be continued, if conditions warrant. During the initial pilot period, the Town will be evaluating the effectiveness of the pilot program through additional monitoring of traffic data, increased enforcement of neighborhood speed limits, and receipt of additional public comment. Data which has been gathered, when analyzed, will be shared with the residents the neighborhoods to discuss the impacts of the pilot program and next steps in addressing the increasing volume of traffic in the neighborhood.
Direct contacts have been made with service providers who access the area and efforts to notify the greater Purcellville community to the changing traffic patterns prior to the pilot program being initiated are ongoing.
