[ARCHIVED] News Release - Arts Council Issues a Call for Local Arts Organizations to Apply for Funding

PURCELLVILLE, Va. January 30, 2018— Local non-profit arts organizations are invited to submit requests for funding to the Purcellville Arts Council by Thursday, March 1, 2018 for arts activities that will be held in Purcellville between July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. To help fund qualifying activities approved by the Purcellville Arts Council, the Town of Purcellville is applying for a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts’ Local Government Challenge Grant Program. The Town will match the amount awarded through that program. A total of up to $9,000 will be distributed to independent arts organizations that have applied for and been awarded support for arts activities within the town.

Eligible arts organizations interested in applying are required to submit, by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, a W-9, the organization’s 501(c)3 letter, and a request letter to the Purcellville Arts Council that addresses the following:

  • arts activity that the funding will support
  • program budget
  • audience(s) served/reached
  • community impact including number of participants, duration of program, and other public and private sector involvement
  • description of the organization

Please note that funding cannot be provided for payment to performers for specific performances.

Eligible applicants must be organizations that focus primarily on the arts (i.e. production, presentation or support of dance, literary arts, media arts, music, theater or visual or related arts); are incorporated in Virginia; and have their headquarters and home seasons, or activities equivalent to a home season, in the state.

The Purcellville Arts Council will review the funding requests and then make recommendations to the Town Council at its March 13, 2018 meeting on the distribution of the funding. The Town Council will make the final determination, dependent on receipt of the matching state funds. The deadline for the Town to apply for the Virginia Commission for the Arts’ Local Government Challenge Grant is April 2, 2018.

Letters and documentation to be considered for funding should be addressed to the Purcellville Arts Council, Attn: Local Government Challenge Grant, and can be mailed to 221 S Nursery Ave, Purcellville, VA 20132, emailed to aware@purcellvilleva.gov, or dropped off at Town Hall.
