[ARCHIVED] News Release - "Train to Run" 5K Race Cancelled; EDAC Special Meetings Cancelled

PURCELLVILLE, Va. September 19, 2017— The Town of Purcellville’s Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) regretfully informs residents and visitors that the inaugural “Train to Run” 5K Race and Fun Run has been cancelled. Despite the strong support of the local business community and sponsors, race participation did not meet expectations.

All sponsors and pre-signed runners will be refunded their contributions and race fees. The EDAC anticipates rescheduling the race for next year with more time to recruit participants and additional sponsors.

Also, the EDAC Special Meetings called for Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 7:00pm, and Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 8:00am, have been cancelled. Those meetings were specific to the topic of the Train to Run 5K Race.

The Train to Run Race was planned to coincide with the Purcellville Tag Sale, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th. The tag sale will continue on October 7th, and more information on the Purcellville Tag Sale is available at http://www.purcellvilletagsale.com.

Other charitable running races will still occur in Purcellville, including the annual Turkey Trot on November 12th. More information can be found at https://pvilleturkeytrot.shutterfly.com/

Future plans for the Train to Run 5K will be shared as they are reviewed and approved by the EDAC and Town Council.
