[ARCHIVED] News Release - Arts Council Awards Grant Funds to Local Arts Organizations

PURCELLVILLE, VA—September 6, 2017 - The Purcellville Arts Council is pleased to announce that they awarded a total of $7,000 to four local organizations using 50% matching grant funds from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The four grant recipients are: Western Loudoun Artists Studio Tour, Loudoun Performing Arts/Loudoun Valley High School Drama Boosters Club, Loudoun Lyric Opera, and Friends of Franklin Park Arts Center.

This year, the Purcellville Arts Council applied for, and won, a $3,500 grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts through its Local Government Challenge Grant. The purpose of the grant is to encourage local governments to support the arts. The $3,500 awarded to the Purcellville Arts Council was matched by the Town to award funds to the four art organizations that had applied.

Local art organizations were invited to submit applications for the funding by March 17, 2017. To apply, interested arts organizations submitted a request letter to the Purcellville Arts Council outlining a program budget, the arts activity that the funding would support and the audience(s) served, along with a description of the organization. Eligible applicants are organizations whose primary purpose is the arts (production, presentation or support of dance, literary arts, media arts, music, theater or visual or related arts), are incorporated in Virginia, and have their headquarters and home seasons, or activities equivalent to a home season, in the state.

“The Virginia Commission for the Arts’ Local Government Challenge Grant has a positive effect on the Town of Purcellville, its citizens, and its artists,” said Liz Jarvis, Chair of the Purcellville Arts Council. “The funds give us the opportunity to help bring local talent to the forefront: it provides local performers, including those at the middle and high school level, with the chance to be featured in professional caliber productions; additionally, local artists are provided with an increase in exhibitions that will feature their work. The support we are able to give local arts organizations is helping to develop the reputation of Purcellville as a destination for both visual and performing arts. We are grateful that this funding is available through the Virginia Commission for the Arts which, in turn, enables the Town to support the arts, brings more to our citizens, and gives emerging and experienced artists the opportunity to share and cultivate their talent. It is all about enriching our community!”

The Purcellville Arts Council is a standing committee that supports visual and performing arts in the Town of Purcellville. The Purcellville Arts Council works to offer local artists more opportunities to share their art with the public while providing residents with a variety of ways to experience, enjoy, and learn about art.
