PURCELLVILLE, Va. September 5, 2017— The Town of Purcellville’s inaugural “Train to Run” 5K Race and Fun Run is only a month away. This easy, casual 5K course will take advantage of Purcellville’s unique assets, from quaint downtown, the historic Train Station, the comfortable W&OD Trail, and finishing through Purcellville’s neighborhood streets to the Bush Tabernacle. The beneficiary of the race event will be the Town’s Youth Sports Grant Program, which provides funding to local sports organizations to benefit their activities and provide opportunities to youth who may otherwise be unable to participate. Last year, $5,250 was given to local youth sports programs to increase participation and activities for our youth!
The Train to Run Race will take place on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at 8:30am. The race will begin and end at the Bush Tabernacle/Purcellville Skating Rink, with activities both before and after the event. Racers with all skill levels are encouraged to participate – from beginners to the most experienced runners. You will want to enjoy a wonderful day in Purcellville after the race, including over 50 eating establishments, great retail and shopping opportunities, and our popular craft beverage scene, which includes 4 craft breweries, a world-renowned distillery, and nearby wineries!
Race registration is now open, and pertinent information is available at http://www.purcellvilleva.gov/race. More details will be provided as the date of the event approaches.
The Economic Development Advisory Committee is also continuing to look for sponsors who wish to support the event and benefit local youth sports activities. Current sponsors include: Unlimited Piping and Plumbing, MVB Bank, and Purcellville Gateway/ECHO Realty. Sponsor information and benefits are listed at the same website.
The Train to Run Race will coincide with the Purcellville Tag Sale, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th. Together, these two events make for an exciting and fulfilling Columbus Day weekend in Purcellville, Loudoun’s Rural Destination.
