[ARCHIVED] News Release - Retirement of Corporal Rick Costello

PURCELLVILLE, VA April 6, 2017 - Corporal Richard “Rick” Costello will be retiring on May 1st, 2017, and the Purcellville Police Department will be hosting a retirement ceremony for him on April 21, 2017, at 5:00p.m. The ceremony will be held at the Purcellville Town Hall which is located at 221 S. Nursery Avenue, Purcellville VA.

Rick began his law enforcement career at an age when many would be retiring. At the age of 55 he was driven to fulfill a lifelong dream of being a police officer. Prior to this he first served in Vietnam as a member of the United States Navy. After an honorable discharge he enjoyed a long successful career in the building supply industry for 31 years.

After completing the six month recruit academy, he joined the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Rick had a desire to try his hand at small town policing and transitioned to the Purcellville Police Department in 2005. During his 12 year career, he had many assignments and took an interest in forensic science and was a graduate of the prestigious Virginia Forensic Academy.

His last assignment was serving in an administrative capacity of the Department. Rick excelled in this area and was instrumental in bringing the new CAD/RMS to the Department, successfully managing the Department’s recent reaccreditation process while serving as the Department’s Accreditation Manager, and was an invaluable asset to the Chief and staff in regards to policy research, facility management, and maintaining the technology equipment of the Department.

On April 21st, we will honor Rick and his long and distinguished career and service to the citizens of the Town of Purcellville and Loudoun County.
