[ARCHIVED] News Release - Purcellville's Pardoning the Turkey Celebration

PURCELLVILLE’S PARDONING THE TURKEY CELEBRATION

PURCELLVILLE, Va. October 31, 2016 - You are invited to join Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall, Purcellville Mayor Kwasi Fraser, and the Purcellville Town Council for Purcellville's first "Pardoning the Turkey" on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at 12:00 noon at the Town Hall, 221 South Nursery Avenue, Purcellville Virginia.

Kicking off the holiday season, this amusing holiday tradition focuses on Loudoun's substantial agricultural heritage. Elaine Boland, owner of Fields of Athenry Farm in Purcellville and the Side Saddle Cafe in Middleburg, says, "Lord Percy is thrilled for this pardon and now he can return to his kingdom." Lord Percy, the turkey being pardoned, resides at Boland's farm.

Mayor Fraser states, "I look forward to granting a mayoral pardon to Lord Percy, that he may never face the knife but enjoy the comforts of Boland's farm for the rest of his life." Likewise, Chair Randall adds, "I'm honored to pardon Lord Percy the turkey; I believe it's appropriate to grant him this mercy. His gift to me is that I will be thinner, because Lord Percy will not be my dinner."

Bring your family, come to meet Lord Percy, and join the holiday cheer.
