PURCELLVILLE, Va. October 14, 2016—The fourth in a series of art exhibits in Purcellville's Town Hall will feature the works of local artist Jan Hundshamer. The show, entitled "Paintings of Loudoun," runs from October 1 to December 30. 2016. The first floor corridors of Town Hall have a gallery-caliber hanging system which creates an opportunity for local artists to exhibit their work. Art exhibitions in Town Hall also ensure that all members of the public have access to art.
Originally from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Jan Hundshamer has lived in Northern Virginia for over 40 years. Jan's interest in drawing and painting goes back to her childhood. Subsequently, raising a family and working for the U.S. Post Office put her painting ambitions on hold. Now retired, has joined local art organizations, The Loudoun Sketch Club and the Blue Ridge Art Association, and has taught herself how to work in watercolor and the occasional acrylic. Jan's work has been exhibited and sold throughout Loudoun as well as outside the county. Jan says, "Many of my paintings are of local buildings with attention to detail. My desire is that when someone observes my paintings, they feel like reaching out and touching the subject or they can place themselves at the scene." Jan does commission pieces and states that she, "hopes to paint for many more years."
Jan Hundshamer's "Paintings of Loudoun" show is currently on exhibit at Purcellville's Town Hall (221 S. Nursery Avenue). A Meet-The-Artist reception will take place there on Wednesday, November 2 from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The public is welcome to join Jan and the Purcellville Arts Council for a night of art and light refreshments. The show may otherwise be seen according to regular Town Hall office hours (Mon - Fri 8:00am - 5:00pm except holidays).
Art exhibits are currently booked through March of 2017 with the Arts Council accepting submissions for future shows. All artwork is decided upon by an outside jury. Please send inquiries to the Town of Purcellville, attention: Melanie Scoggins at mscoggins@purcellvilleva.gov.
