[ARCHIVED] News Release - Calling All Artists!

The Purcellville Arts Council announces three opportunities to demonstrate your talents within the community. Local artists are invited to participate in the following projects:

Art Banners: artists may submit a digital image of their artwork which will then be reproduced on banners lining downtown 21st Street. The theme is "Winter Warmth in Purcellville" and will capture the coming winter months as well as the warmth of color that permeates the Purcellville area. The artist's name will also appear with the image. Banners will remain installed (on new street lamps' brackets) until well into 2017. Deadline for online submissions is November 1, 2016. All digital images submitted constitute permission to print said image for public display. Submissions must be sent to: pvilleartscouncil@gmail.com and any images received after the November 1, 2016 deadline will not be accepted. Chosen artwork for the banners is the decision of an outside jury.

Holiday Ornaments: attention all local artists and creatives! There will be large ornaments in different holiday shapes (trees, candy canes, dreidels, etc.) that can be decorated for public display this holiday season on light poles and in front of businesses around Town. Boy/Girl Scout Troops, students, community groups, and anyone in the community is encouraged to contact Michael Oaks at Re-Love It for details and for an ornament. The shapes are up to three feet tall and are cut from street sign material. The sale of the Painted Wine Barrels will go to cover the cost of the manufacture of these ornaments. Auction of the Painted Wine Barrels is October 8, starting at 7PM at the skating rink (Bush Tabernacle). The deadline is for completed holiday ornaments is November 1, 2016. For more information about the auction or the holiday ornaments, contact Michael Oaks at reloveit@aol.com

Ornament for the Governor's Mansion: The Virginia Municipal League has announced the following: "Nearly 200 localities graciously participated in last year’s ornament collection for the Holiday Tree at the Executive Mansion. The tree featured incredible works of art that celebrated the unique history and culture of the towns and cities they represented." The Town of Purcellville will be submitting one ornament that represents our locality. All residents are welcome to submit an idea for this ornament that will reflect the character of the Town of Purcellville. The guidelines for this project can be found in this link: http://www.vml.org/education/holiday-tree-ornaments
All design submissions must be sent to: pvilleartscouncil@gmail.com by October 3, 2016 and the winning designer will be notified on October 6 as the ornament is to be sent out no later than October 28, 2016 to meet the deadline for arrival.

Please make sure that you indicate which project(s) you are interested in by including the name of the above opportunities in the subject line of your email. The Purcellville Arts Council is a Town of Purcellville committee which serves to bring more accessible art into the area and supports local artists. If you are interested in helping to promote the arts, Purcellville Arts Council meetings are held at Town Hall on the second Monday of each month at 6:00PM. The next meeting will be October 3 due to the holiday.
