PURCELLVILLE, Va. May 12, 2017 — At their regular meeting on May 9, 2017, the Town Council appointed Alex Vanegas to the position of Interim Town Manager while the Town conducts the search for a permanent appointment. According to Mayor Kwasi Fraser, “Having served 11.5 years in the Purcellville Public Works Department and 4 years as its Director, Alex Vanegas has managed all aspects of operational service delivery to our citizens and businesses. As a result, he possesses the experience and institutional knowledge to lead our organization through this time of transition. With great confidence, this Town Council unanimously appoints Mr. Vanegas as our interim Town Manager.”
Alex Vanegas, CPM, has dedicated his career to public service by working for several local governments and authorities since the early 1990’s. Alex is an affiliate member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). He has devoted his time to the community by having served on numerous boards and commissions through both gubernatorial and local appointments. He is still active with the Planning Commission in Prince William County. Mr. Vanegas also volunteers at his local church distributing groceries at the local food pantry and participates in various community cleanup efforts throughout the region. He enjoys staying active by hiking and running various races. Mr. Vanegas is a Certified Public Manager through the Regional Executive Development Program accredited by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. He holds a master’s degree in Urban Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia and a second master’s degree in Organizational Management from George Washington University. Alex also has a graduate certificate in Executive Leadership Coaching through George Washington University.
